Whether you are visiting the oldest and largest arboretum in Arizona, hiking the Arizona trail, camping in a national forest, cataloguing butterflies, bird watching, rock hounding or rock climbing, you will find multiple areas to explore and enjoy.
The northern portion of the copper corridor rests within the Tonto National Forest. The town of Superior is in the Tonto National Forest. Miami and Globe are within very close proximity. Areas of note within the Tonto National Forest Copper Corridor area are:
- Oak Flat in Ranger District 2, 4 miles E of Superior off of US 60 with 16 camping units, barrier free access and at an elevation of 4200’
- Devils Canyon, 6 miles E of Superior off of US 60 with 5 camping units, minimum development and no trailer access, and at an elevation of 4000’
- Sulphide Del Rey 10 mi SW of Globe with 10 camping units, April through November usage and at an elevation of 6000’
- Kellner, 6 mi SW of Globe with 4 camping units, no trailer access, small groups only and at an elevation of 4500’
The southern portion of the Copper Corridor rests within the Coronado National Forest. Near Oracle and Mammoth is the Galiuro Wilderness, Aravaipa Canyon, and Rincon Mountain Wilderness. In Ranger District 5, the Peppersauce area is 15 miles SE of Oracle on FR 382, at an elevation of 4700’ it offers 18 camping units and water is available.
